The kindness Yeo ri spent years giving away is what saves her. Full spoilers.
⚠️ Full spoilers for Episodes 11-12.
Episode 11 — Yeo ri Chooses to Leave
Yeo ri tells Gang uk the engagement is off. When he asks whether this is really about his grandmother’s superstition, Yeo ri answers that the same kind of nonsense lives in her too. He has nothing to say to that.
Gang uk confronts his grandmother about it. She insists she did it for him. He cuts through that cleanly: she didn’t do it for him, she did it so she could sleep at night.
Min hwan’s Lie
With the legal storm around Yeo ri driving Reina’s stock down, a report lands: Min hwan’s CL Group is buying shares at the low price. Yeo ri calls him in and confronts him about it — and about something else. Why did he lie about the pendant not being at the accident?
It isn’t that he took it. It’s that he lied about it. That’s the question that starts Yeo ri suspecting him.
Meanwhile, Min hwan’s mother, vice chairwoman of CL Group, finds Ji hwan’s pendant in her son’s office. She presses him about it too, and Min hwan escapes with another lie: he found it after twelve years. His mother is touched.
At her request, Gang uk and his grandmother join her for a meal, and she gives Gang uk the pendant. Outside, Min hwan watches Gang uk walk away with it.
Gang uk at the Prosecutors’ Office
Arriving for questioning, Yeo ri faces the press head-on and states plainly that she’s done nothing wrong. Inside, she hands Prosecutor Lim Seo hyeon the file on Ok Gye hui and Assemblyman Park Jin dong and formally requests an investigation.
On her way out, as the questions and camera flashes come at her, Gang uk steps in front of her and blocks them. That night he goes to her apartment and gives her the pendant.
People Start Falling
Gang uk blows the whistle on Chief Prosecutor Ok Gye dong, Ok Gye hui’s older brother. Prosecutors dig hard into both Ok Gye dong and Assemblyman Park Jin dong — improper solicitation, bribery, even trading stock under borrowed names.
As the file Yeo ri handed over makes the case against Park Jin dong airtight, he takes his own life. Ok Gye hui plays the card she’s been cultivating for years: the chief prosecutor’s wife.
Gang uk, for his part, is transferred to a provincial post as payback for the whistleblowing.
The Truth About the Pendant — A Debt Paid in Years
Gang uk’s colleague Hyeong min tracks down where the pendant was made. Yeo ri and Gang uk go there and meet the maker’s daughter, who appears to be a shaman. She holds the pendant and reads what happened.
Yeo ri was the one who should have died that day. The pendant kept her alive, and Ji hwan died instead. Ji hwan’s soul remained tied to her instead of crossing over, and that bond became the source of her ability to see ghosts. According to the shaman, a life saved against the natural order has to be balanced by another life.
Yeo ri blames herself for Ji hwan dying in her place. Gang uk tells her it was fate.
What Actually Happened on the Yacht Twelve Years Ago
With his father dead, Park Seung jae gets a five-day furlough from prison. He violates the terms by staying at his old house and ends up facing arrest — but that house holds something. He was on that yacht twelve years ago, and a camcorder recorded what happened. This is when Park Seung jae himself learns the truth that has been buried for twelve years.
He summons Min hwan to a remote location and plays it. On screen, Ji hwan is in the water, begging his brother not to let go. Min hwan lets go.
Park Seung jae demands a boat out of the country and 10 billion won. Min hwan strikes him in the back of the head and kills him.
A message from Yeo ri arrives on Park Seung jae’s phone, asking for information about the yacht accident. Min hwan summons her to the scene. When she arrives, Park Seung jae’s body is there, and so are the police and prosecutors moments later. It looks exactly like she did it. Yeo ri is taken in for questioning.
The Truck, and Yeo ri Taking It Instead
With nothing turning up in the case, Gang uk returns to the scene of Park Seung jae’s death. There he finds Min hwan’s cufflink — and Min hwan realizes his cufflink is missing.
As Gang uk steps out of the site, a dump truck comes straight at him. Yeo ri shoves him clear and takes the impact herself.
Episode 11 ends on Yeo ri, bloodied, on the ground.
Episode 12 — Stopped Just Before the Crossing
Yeo ri is rushed to the hospital. Gang uk clutches his chest and collapses too, though it turns out to be hyperventilation and he’s back on his feet quickly. Yeo ri comes out of major surgery in a coma. The doctors tell him to prepare himself.
Overhearing his grandmother on the phone, Gang uk learns the truth: his heart is Ji hwan’s heart.
Yeo ri’s spirit, meanwhile, is somewhere else. There she meets all the souls she helped over the years, and one by one, each of them takes her hand.
Gang uk visits the place where Ji hwan rests, thanks him, returns the pendant, and asks for one thing: help her come back.
What Ji hwan Does Last
At the river to the other side, a ferryman takes Yeo ri’s hand — and her vital signs crash.
Ji hwan’s spirit steps in and blocks him. The warmth Yeo ri gave away, he says, is what’s still holding her to this world.
Then Ji hwan says he’ll return to where he belongs. He boards the boat alone. He was the one anchoring her ability all along, and with him gone, Yeo ri will no longer see ghosts.
Yeo ri opens her eyes.
The Video Played at the Memorial
Min hwan gets his briefing: Yeo ri has been comatose for over a week, and the CCTV footage around the scene has been taken care of. Reassured, he prepares the twelfth memorial for Ji hwan — the event where his succession as CL Group chairman will be announced.
Yeo ri, hiding the fact that she’s conscious, searches Park Seung jae’s house. Gang uk arrives on the same errand, and together they find the SD card Park Seung jae hid.
The memorial is underway when Yeo ri — supposedly in a coma — walks in. She stops the ceremony and plays what she calls Ji hwan’s last recording.
On screen, Ji hwan begs his brother not to let go. Min hwan lets go.
Min hwan’s Downfall
The event breaks up. Min hwan demands to know whether his mother believes a video over her own son.
Stepping outside to arrange legal counsel, he’s stopped by Yeo ri. How could you? Min hwan answers: he didn’t want to lose the company, or his mother, or her.
Then Gang uk appears with investigators and arrests him. While Min hwan was absorbed in the memorial, they searched his office and secured evidence for every charge.
At the same moment, Ok Gye hui’s office is raided. She collapses.
One Year Later — Everything Back Where It Belongs
Ok Gye hui is in prison. Cheon Ha ri is learning the hotel business from the ground up as a regular employee. Visited by her children, Ok Gye hui instructs them to be completely loyal to Yeo ri for the sake of their comeback. She was always the one who bent faster than the wind.
Min hwan is also in prison. He finally accepts the visit from his mother he’d been refusing all along. She tells him gently that when he comes back to the world, she’ll take him in again. Min hwan breaks down.
Gang uk, still posted in the provinces, gets a surprise visit from Yeo ri. Usually he’s the one making the trip to Seoul — this time she came down. He tells her he’s heading back to Seoul, and his colleagues welcome him home.
Yeo ri resolves the control dispute and takes over as chairwoman.
The Final Scene — Two People Walking, Holding Hands
Gang uk and Yeo ri walk in front of Siena Hall, hands together.
Yeo ri once said all she wanted was to walk holding hands with someone she loved. Back then it seemed impossible. Now it’s just what she’s doing.
Gang uk puts it this way: what’s an ordinary day for everyone else was a miracle for them, and now that miracle has become ordinary. Let’s make another one, they say — and the show ends there.
A 9% Finale
The final episode drew a national average of 7.9% and peaked at 9%, a series high. It held the number one spot in its timeslot across cable and general programming channels for six consecutive weeks, and stayed in Netflix’s global top 10 for non-English shows for five straight weeks. Related video content passed 570 million cumulative views.
It Started as Occult and Ended as Pure Sweetness
Calling this an occult drama was always a stretch. The original film never managed to be frightening either, and expecting that from a show built on rom-com foundations was probably never realistic.
The ghosts, in particular, were not scary. Every one of them was kind, incapable of doing harm. Which leaves the actual plot resting on a corporate succession fight and the truth about a friend who died twelve years ago. Korea makes excellent occult films. I miss the people who make those.
Does It Work as a Crime Drama?
It doesn’t. As an investigative thriller, this had almost nothing to offer — no real foreshadowing, no puzzle to work through, no suspense. Nobody should come to this expecting that.
Worth Watching? If You Want Park Eun bin in a Rom-Com, Yes
If you’re a Park Eun bin fan, this is easy watching. The warmth, with none of the coldness, worked especially well. Her appeal isn’t built on distance or glamour. She has the kind of warmth that makes her feel immediately familiar.
Her acting has been proven many times over, and it’s on display here. The genre has its share of cringe, and she covers for it.
The sweet parts are hard to convey in a recap. Watch it and enjoy the corners of your mouth going up on their own.
As I’ve said in earlier posts, I’m not particularly fond of chaebol stories or prosecutor stories. Even so, Park Eun bin and Yang Se jong’s performances made this worth the time — and plenty of Korean viewers seem to agree.
