A Shop for Killers Season 2 is now on Disney+, and it assumes you already know Season 1.
Season 2 appears built around Ji-an’s rise. An ordinary college student becomes someone who survives — and eventually runs — a world full of professional killers. Without knowing where that journey started, Season 2’s biggest moments won’t land the way they should. Start with Season 1.
An Uncle’s Death, and a Weapons Shop in Disguise
Jung Ji-an grew up under the care of her uncle, Jung Jin-man, her only guardian. Then, one day, news arrives that he’s suddenly died.
There’s no time to grieve. Ji-an is immediately confronted with what he left behind: a bank account holding 18.7 billion won from an unknown source, and a website disguised as an ordinary agricultural supply shop — actually a dark web weapons marketplace called “Murthehelp.”
The moment word of his death gets out, professional killers start coming for the shop. Ji-an is thrown into danger without any idea why. But piece by piece, she starts remembering the brutal survival training her uncle put her through, and the advice that always started the same way: “Listen carefully, Ji-an.”
Jung Jin-man
A former mercenary, and the man running a weapons shop for killers. Lee Dong-wook’s casting as this mysterious character has been widely praised as a perfect fit.
He comes across as listless one moment, quietly funny the next, and endlessly anxious that his niece might end up with the wrong guy — a tsundere uncle if there ever was one. No line captures him better than “Listen carefully, Ji-an.” Anyone who’s seen this show remembers it.
Jung Ji-an
Kim Hye-jun plays an ordinary college student who slowly awakens under pressure. The chemistry between uncle and niece is what holds the entire show together.
With help from her uncle’s old allies — So Min-hye, Brother, and Pa-shin — Ji-an fights off wave after wave of enemies.
One breakout performance worth calling out: Kim Min, who plays Pa-shin, a Thai Muay Thai master, became a genuine scene-stealer. Kim Min is Korean, but his Thai-accented performance was convincing enough that some viewers assumed he was a foreign actor. He’d already earned praise for a similar role — a Filipino hitman — in Disney+’s Casino. Geum Hae-na, who plays So Min-hye and takes on a Chinese character in this show, drew similar attention for the same reason.
Why It’s Worth Watching — Stylish Action and a Locked-Room Survival Story
This show moves constantly between past and present, delivering action in every form imaginable — Muay Thai, hand-to-hand combat, close-quarters gunfights, sniping, booby traps, even drones.
You can tell the cast is handling most of the physical work themselves, which gives the fight scenes real weight. Season 1 largely plays out as a “locked-room survival story,” confined mostly to a countryside house — and pulling this much sustained tension out of such a tight space is exactly what makes this series work.
For context, the show is based on the novel The Murderer’s Shopping Mall by Kang Ji-young. The novel and the drama differ significantly in tone and scale — that’s a story for the next post, which does contain spoilers.
The Verdict
If you want to actually enjoy Season 2, you need to sit through this tight, breathless survival story first. Understanding how the bond between Jin-man and Ji-an was built is the only way to understand why Ji-an shows up in Season 2 as a completely different person.
