Min hwan was on that yacht twelve years ago. Full spoilers.
⚠️ Spoilers for Episodes 9-10.
The engagement happens. The shareholder vote goes their way. And then, at the end of episode 10, Yeo ri is the one who says they should call it off. Two episodes are all it takes to turn everything around.
Sliding On a Ring Without Touching Her Hand
The engagement ceremony goes off without a hitch. Gang uk carefully maneuvering the ring onto her finger without making contact is a genuinely funny sight.
Min hwan, watching from the ceremony, sees his mother claim she’s still in the United States when she’s already in Korea. The look on his face is hard to read.
On a bridge lit by moonlight, Gang uk tells Yeo ri he’s grateful they met, and looks forward to a day they can hold hands properly. The two agree to share whatever comes.
An Emergency Shareholders’ Meeting — 3% Short
When the engagement starts helping Reina’s numbers, Ok Gye hui and Cheon Ha ri move to shut that momentum down. With Director Gong joining their side, an extraordinary shareholders’ meeting is called immediately.
Yeo ri’s camp is in trouble. With the retainer group aligning behind Ok Gye hui, they’re short by roughly 3%. Someone suggests exposing Ok Gye hui’s slush fund, but there’s circumstantial evidence and nothing more.
Yeo ri decides to approach Han Se in, who holds the missing 3%, directly.
Singapore — Min hwan Got There First
Learning that Han Se in will attend a hotel conference in Singapore, Yeo ri flies out herself.
Han Se in has already received an offer at double the price. Yeo ri counters by offering exhibition rights across Reina’s properties, but Han Se in says his mind is already made up. He checks out thirty minutes before the evening reception, and they never meet.
The double-price offer came from Min hwan.
What Actually Happened on the Yacht
Watching someone fall into the water at the reception, Yeo ri is pulled back twelve years.
Ji hwan had just put his grandmother’s pendant around her neck when the yacht lurched and he went overboard. And in that moment, Min hwan was standing right there.
Min hwan’s own memory fills in the rest. On the yacht, Ji hwan realized his older brother was in love with Yeo ri. The two were arguing when the boat struck a reef and pitched, and Ji hwan fell.
A Gloved Hand
At Yeo ri’s request, Gang uk enlists his colleague Hyeong min to track Han Se in down. Then he takes leave and flies to Singapore himself.
He finds Yeo ri at her lowest and takes her hand. She startles — then looks down and sees he’s wearing gloves.
Chaeum Artrion — Yeo ri’s Real Offer
In episode 10, with Hyeong min’s help, Yeo ri finally sits down across from Han Se in.
She brings up Siena Hall, the place tied to her parents. For Han Se in, that place is Chaeum Artrion. The problem is that his brother’s reckless expansion has put the building at risk of falling into the hands of property speculators.
Yeo ri’s proposal is registration as national cultural heritage. The building is only forty-five years old, but it can be registered as preliminary heritage, and public sentiment is already forming. On top of that, Reina would acquire the building and Han Se in would operate it.
Han Se in asks for time to think. Yeo ri also passes along the gift Gang uk brought.
A Day in Singapore, and a Long Kiss
The gloves let them hold hands freely all day. Yeo ri is grateful for it.
That night, sharing a room, she realizes she’s lost the pendant Ji hwan gave her.
Having confirmed that gloves block the transfer, Gang uk reaches for her bare hand anyway, saying he doesn’t care about seeing ghosts if it means being with her. Yeo ri refuses. She can’t stand watching someone she loves suffer because of her.
And then the two of them kiss, at length, with nothing interrupting them.
A 0.5% Victory
The shareholders’ meeting convenes. Electronic voting puts Yeo ri behind at 51%. On-site voting puts her ahead by 3%.
The final margin: the motion to remove her fails by 0.5%.
Han Se in sided with her. The gift Gang uk delivered — Do won’s painting — was what moved him.
The Bribe Ends Up With Assemblyman Park Jin dong
Yeo ri hands the slush fund file on Ok Gye hui to her grandmother.
But what Yeo ri knows turns out to be the tip of the iceberg. Ok Gye hui’s brother, Chief Prosecutor Ok Gye dong, laundered a painting for the Yeeon Foundation, and that painting was handed over as a bribe to a major politician in exchange for permit approvals.
That politician is Assemblyman Park Jin dong — father of Park Seung jae, the pro golfer arrested for murder back in episodes 1 and 2.
Min hwan knows all of it.
Why the Grandmother Really Objects to the Black Monkey
Gang uk’s grandmother finds out Yeo ri’s birth year and comes apart. When Gang uk demands to know why she wants the engagement broken, the answer finally comes.
The donor of his transplanted heart was born in the year of the black monkey. Bringing another black monkey into his life, she believes, will shorten it.
Gang uk dismisses it as superstition. She isn’t moved.
Where Did the Pendant Go?
Unable to find any record of the pendant in the accident files, Gang uk tracks down the rescue worker who was there twelve years ago.
The man, receiving treatment at a hospital, has a simple answer. The family took it. “Said it belonged to the family.”
Min hwan’s Endgame
Min hwan makes his offer to Ok Gye hui: he’ll merge Reina into his own company, CL Group. When Reina’s stock drops, CL buys.
He also golfs with the chief prosecutor. The man wants to become Prosecutor General, and Assemblyman Park Jin dong is blocking him. Tying Park to the Yeeon lobbying case would solve that, except the chief prosecutor’s right hand is Ok Gye dong.
Min hwan’s suggestion is simple: tie Cheon Yeo ri to the Yeeon case instead.
Everything Collapses at the End of Episode 10
News breaks linking Yeo ri to the bribery case involving Assemblyman Park Jin dong and the Yeeon Museum of Art.
At the same time, the overseas training assignment Gang uk applied for last year comes through — absurdly, right now. All of it is Min hwan’s doing. Lim Seo hyeon tells Yeo ri directly: someone upstairs wants Prosecutor Ma out of Seoul.
Then Yeo ri’s grandmother summons her. Break it off with Gang uk. Too much has landed at once, and Yeo ri has no idea what to do with any of it.
Unable to reach her by phone, Gang uk finds her at Siena Hall. And there, Yeo ri says it.
Let’s call off the engagement.
Two Episodes Left, and Everything Is Moving at Once
The writer built this carefully through ten episodes and detonated the conflict properly at the end.
Gang uk’s Grandmother Has Become a Liability
She was a charming character early on. At this point she’s pure obstruction, blocking everything for reasons that make no sense in the middle of an already impossible situation.
Most Koreans today, faced with this, would be ready to cut ties entirely.
Shamans, Fortune Telling, Chaebols — Can a Story Not Work Without These?
I’ve said it before, and I still don’t care for any of the three. They’re cheat codes for moving a plot along easily.
This writer seems genuinely capable. I’d like to see a wider range of material.
What Prosecutors Mean in Korea
In Korean society, prosecutors are a source of both admiration and resentment.
There are plenty of dedicated prosecutors like Gang uk. There have also been many who used their power politically and served something other than justice. That history forms part of the larger debate that has led Korea to a major institutional change: the Prosecutors’ Office is set to be abolished on October 2, 2026, with prosecution and major criminal investigation divided between the new Prosecution Office and Serious Crimes Investigation Agency.
Korean dramas often depict both faces of the profession, but this one is interesting for placing a just prosecutor and a corrupt one side by side. That makes this drama especially interesting now, as Korea moves toward separating prosecution from major criminal investigation.
If you want a Korean drama built around prosecutors, watch Stranger. It’s genuinely well made, and it’s on Netflix.
